My professional interests center around interdisciplinary problems. Such problems typically involve the complex interaction of coupled nonlinear phenomena. It is the challenge of understanding this coupling and its proper representation in modeling efforts that I find the most interesting. Over the years, I have been involved with several types of interdisciplinary problems, one being the interaction of sound with structures, the second involving the study of multiphase flow through and around heated structures, and another being infrastructure systems. Practically speaking, the applications have been to sonar systems for the first, nuclear reactor safety for the second and the coupled behavior of the electric power grid, gas supply, and other infrastructure systems for the third..
